Pydio Cells V4 - Now Enterprise Multi-cloud Ready

Enterprise clients have been asking for it. Now Cells is enterprise cloud-ready!

We’re happy to announce the launch of Pydio Cells 4.0. This new version is a ground-up rebuild of the platform’s backend to create a truly enterprise-level, cloud-native solution ready for high-use, high-availability clustered deployments. 

Simpler. More Flexible. More Powerful.

With more documents, bigger docs, new document sources and services, today’s enterprise client needs new levels of speed, flexibility and scalability to go with the security that Cells already provides. Cells 4.0’s new simplified core works in single-node as well as complex multi-node configurations – all the way from Raspberry Pi to Kubernetes clusters.

To get cloud- and multi-node ready, we’ve retired our original microservices framework, which was complex and limiting. Working from a clean slate, we developed a brand new, truly stateless instance of Cells 4.0 that decouples and externalizes storage and service layers to create an image that can easily be distributed and replicated. 

And for you #gophers, this new codebase embraces Go Modules for dependency management (at last)!

Leveraging Best-in-Class Cloud Solutions

Cell 4.0 radically simplifies multi-node setup. It also adds the flexibility of working with high-volume, high-availability technologies like:

  • MongoDB (JSON docs)

  • Redis (cache)

  • ETCD / Hashicorp Vault (configs and service registry)

  • NATS.io (messaging bus)

  • Docker & Kubernetes (deployment)

All these technologies are optional, and Cells can still be deployed as a standalone, dependency-free binary. You can get all the details about Cells Version 4.0 in our Administrator’s guide.

With this new architecture, Cells 4.0 is now fully cloud-ready across platforms like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform or your own hybrid cloud infrastructure. And our new core architecture improves scalability as well as enhances stability by eliminating Cells as a single point of failure.

  • For V3 users, the move up to V4 just makes sense. The transition is simple, and the payoff is a faster, more usable, and more secure platform with tons of new features. To upgrade, just replace the binary via the Cells Console in-app tool.

  • For Version 8 users, Pydio 8 is no longer supported, which means no updates and real-time security risks. But we’ve created a migration path that makes the switch from Pydio 8 to Cells V4 easy to deploy and maintains all your Admin and User data.
